Social Responsibilities & Environment
Being one of the major players in the DIY sector and a very solid employer, Praktiker EOOD bears the responsibility for providing
quality products, services and working conditions. The company has adopted the concept of Corporate Social responsibilities,
closely linked with the Sustainable Development, claiming that business decisions should be taken by observing social and
environmental factors.
In Bulgaria, Praktiker has established a solid structure and a wide network of stores, being governed by a very proactive management team. For 3 years, Praktiker EOOD succeeded in opening 6 stores in the country. This period happened to be crucial for Bulgarian incoming adherence to the European Union, taking into consideration all necessary reforms, concerning economics, justice, education etc. Government regulations regarding environmental and social issues, has also increased, and standards and laws were also often set at a supranational level (e.g., by the European Union). Praktiker EOOD has been continuously observing these regulations and acted like a good neighbor and a reliable business partner. From the opening of the very first store up to now Praktiker proved to be a company, susceptible to corporate social responsibilities, to transparency, stake holder dialogue and integrity in the conduct of the business. 1. Employment & Labor Conditions Praktiker EOOD is a solid employer, providing over 100 positions in each city, where there is a store. 2. Commitment to Environmental Issues Praktiker EOOD has secured that the whole business of the company complies with all local standards and environmental regulations. Praktiker EOOD is certified by Ecopack Bulgaria for participating in the reutilization of packs. It is also certified for machinery safety according to the European Legislation. 3. Commitment to social problems The first Praktiker store in Bulgaria organized a charity action in nursery school №88. Sofia, 06.12.1006 On December, 6th , six Praktiker employees engaged in painting the plinth of the building during their day off. The initiative was driven by the badly needed repairs of the neighbors’ nursery school. As Director of the garden, Mrs. Stefanova, as well as all teachers, shared they did not experience such a surprise during last fifteen years. This event was preceded by another special engagement to children. In July, 2006, two Praktiker stores bestowed garden tables and chairs to 2 nursery schools – “Svetulka” in Varna and “Daga” in Plovdiv. Praktiker EOOD supported the victims of the floods of 2005 with a 5000 BGN donation. Sofia, 31.08.2005 In July 2005, some regions of Bulgaria were struck by torrential rains that caused devastating floods. The Plovdiv area was one the most affected. Praktiker was one of the first companies to react to this misfortune, by organizing a fund collection in all of its stores, along with the Bulgarian Red Cross. In addition, Praktiker EOOD made a special donation of 5000 BGN. These resources were used for reconstruction of houses, damaged by the floods. |
